Bank can’t help you if they don’t know you need help so how do you encourage people to disclose their dementia/caring status?

Some ideas that are already implemented (ie can bypass phone security questions by setting up your voice as your ‘PIN’) but not known about. How can people use these things if they don’t know they exist?

A woman whose husband has young onset dementia found that he would struggle if the bank staff didn’t stick to their appointment time because he would get agitated quickly.

Vulnerable customers phoneline

Can't get through to someone who understands difficulties people affected by dementia face, which coupled with difficult security questions can be very challenging. Having a specific vulnerable customers phoneline would be very helpful

Telephone scripts can be badly written which don’t cope well for people living with dementia, difficult to get through security

Blocked by not using internet banking

People can struggle to get the help they need because their bank struggles to help them if they don’t have internet banking. Insisted that they set up internet banking even though he didn’t want it and wasted his time.

Losing key abilities

Lots of people with dementia are afraid that being stuck in the house with limited social interaction and lack of opportunity to continue practicing existing skills (such as getting the bus independently) will mean they lose these skill by the end of coronavirus. Emphasis on losing ability to speak.
